Shaped by curiosity
Dumpster Mermaid is born from an ineffable thirst for the stories behind beautiful things.
What is it?
How was it made?
Who was it made by? Who was it made for?
Is it Trash? Or is it Treasure?
I ask these questions of the objects or apparel that surround me. I see the magic in the discarded and the slightly odd. I am obsessed with form over function and textiles that feel as good as they look.
Dumpster Mermaid represents a practice,
not a product line. I’ve got a knack for finding special pieces. This platform allows me to share those with you.
How Releases Work
This work begins with curiosity for the forgotten.
This work is also a process of learning.
Releases are not frequent, nor comprehensive.
This is not a catalogue nor is this trend led sourcing.
It is a considered selection, shaped by me and shared with you. I take great care in detailing, restoration and repair. Not all pieces make the cut, and where possible are repurposed.
Each release is treated as a chapter.
Pieces are grouped because they speak to one another, not because they match or make sense.
Objects are photographed individually and in context, to reveal texture, proportion and details that I hope you fall in love with as much as I have.
There is so much joy in discovery.
With love,
Meg from Dumpster Mermaid.
