Black and white illustration of a potted fish tail with decorative scale pattern and fins, resembling a mermaid tail, in a cylindrical pot.

Shaped by curiosity

Dumpster Mermaid is born from an ineffable thirst for the stories behind things.

What is it?
How was it made?
Who was it made by? Who was it made for?
Why is it so?

I ask these questions of the objects or apparel that surround me.
The tension between form and function perhaps unravels, as the character of a piece reveals a beauty not seen before.
Dumpster Mermaid represents a practice,
not a product line.

How Releases Work

This work begins with curiosity for the forgotten.
This work is also a process of learning.

Releases are not frequent, and they are not comprehensive.
This is not a catalogue nor is this trend led sourcing.
It is a considered selection, shaped by me and shared with you.

Each release is treated as a chapter.
Pieces are grouped because they speak to one another, not because they match or make sense.

Objects are photographed individually and in context, to reveal texture, proportion and details that I hope you fall in love with as much as I have.
There is so much joy in discovery.

With love, Dumpster Mermaid.
